Simon de Pury

WOW! Loving these Simon de Pury prints available for sale online and on exhibition @colette.

Key figure in the international art scene, Simon de Pury still runs the big auction house Phillips de Pury & Cie. with panache but asserts himself as well as a photographer and archivist of his own life through a book and exposition, PurePuryGraphy from January 3rd to 29th.

The works shown at colette allow a unique angle on the life and travels of one of the more intriguing figures in contemporary culture today. The photographs are close-up shots of objects, materials, cities and landscapes that give an intimate glimpse of Simon de Pury’s perception and curiosity as seen through his very own eyes. His work is about reality and its different perceptions. ~colette

ANGELS in REVELRY

ANTEBELLUM presents ANGELS in REVELRY : A Decade in Los Angeles 1977 – 1987
photography by IVY NEY

opening reception JANUARY 14TH, 2011

By 1976, at the age of twenty-three, Ivy was living in Los Angeles, working for the LA Times under the iconic fashion editor Mary Lou Luther.

It was her ticket into the Hollywood nightlife, rubbing shoulders with and photographing celebrities like Lucille Ball and John Travolta, in timeless black and white.

While living off the Sunset Strip, a stone’s throw from The Whisky A-gogo, Ivy became a fixture on the LA music scene, documenting the early days of the The Red Hot Chilli Peppers, The Go-Go’s, Henry Rollins, X, local punk darlings- The Screamers, and capturing candid portraits of Bob Dylan and Leonard Cohen.

Ivy usually needed just one snap to capture the essence of her subject. This resulted in her most memorable images.
