Soul Birds

Welcome back! I hope you had a great New Years. My New Year has already been quite interesting. Just hope that things work out and it only gets better. I’m also looking forward to Mercury getting out of Retrograde on the 15th.
Now, onto other things…..I love these by Sanna Annukka:
In Karelia there was an ancient belief in the Sielulintu or Soul bird. “It was believed the Sielulintu protected a persons soul at it’s most vulnerable; when dreaming, and it was tradition to keep a carved wooden bird by the bedside to keep the soul safe during sleep.”

Very Unique

This weekend I went to check out the Unique Independent Design and Gift Show downtown LA.
There were a few things that stuck out for me and I thought I’d share with you.
The first thing that really caught my eye were Jen Zahigian‘s Roadside Photographs. She’s got some pretty amazing shots that are reasonable priced for sale at her etsy shop.
Then I happened into search+resQ design collective’s booth. Ando Pndlia, a practicing architect and one part of the collective, had some really intriguing wood pieces. The clock pictured above is an etching on bamboo. He also had some reclaimed wood pieces, skate decks turned clocks and a new table that had an etched design that started on the wood and continued onto glass. Very cool.
When I spotted what seemed like a hundred robot dolls I had to stop and check them out. The Kauzbot come in a bunch of different colors and 10% of the retail price is donated to the “kause close to that robot’s heart.” Very cute! I wanted to get all one hundred.
And the last thing I saw that I really liked was bamboo elephant bookends from Ribbit Stopit. Their main focus is to produce children’s toys and puzzles that are locally made with 100% non toxic & sustainable materials.

Brionvega Radiofonografio

Most of you might know that my husband is in the music business so there’s a lot of music going on around here (and equipment for that matter) at all times, especially in the office that we both share. So, when I spotted the rr226 by Brionvega stereo sound system, I thought it was a nicely designed piece to share and appreciate.
“In 1965, the ‘musical component robot’ was a home electronic marvel that in one sleekly designed device included a radio, amplifiers and a record player (for both 45s and 33s).” Today’s model is kept as close to the original, but includes updated features such as CD and DVD players. The amplifiers are movable for different configurations. Very nice indeed.

ABC Animals

The ABC Animals Phone app is really great. I go thru the alphabet with my little guy most everyday. He really loves it. The app has been described as “Elegant in its simplicity.” Fun and engaging animal illustrations help to keep learning ABC’s fun! Audio accompanies each card providing a letter name, associated animal name and the phonetics for each letter. Double tap any card to flip it over and practice tracing both uppercase and lowercase letters right on the screen of your iPhone.
If you have a little one….go get it!
