I’m kinda dying after seeing this Collection Of 5 Ceramic Pieces By Dora De Larios (C. 60s-70s) available at Lawson Fenning. Really nice.

Dora De Larios is a Los Angeles born Mexican-American Ceramist who is famed and admired for her intimate ceramic pieces as well as her large mixed media and architectural installations across California.

Dora has been featured in more than 50 solo gallery shows, group invitational shows and juried museum exhibitions across the U.S., including the Museum of Contemporary Crafts in New York, the Renwick Gallery in Washington, D.C., the Craft and Folk Art Museum in Los Angeles and the Los Angeles County Museum of Art. ~Fenning

:: STORM OF LIFE ::

You might already be familiar with Mattia Biagi’s TAR dripping Teddy Bears (LOVE), but his new Storm of Life preview installations can be seen around Los Angeles now.

STORM OF LIFE is a continuation of Biagi’s recent series of work examining common cultural superstitions – their origins and the stigmas attached to them – while questioning the extent to which we let these notions infiltrate and effect our daily lives, and how we can unconsciously accept them as dogma despite their unfounded nature. The exhibition as a means of liberating the artists own fears and irrationalities.

SUMMERTIME

Micheal McLaughlin, Rio, 2002

I love this piece and wanted to use it in the last project I worked on in Venice Beach. Micheal McLaughhlin‘s work is represented by Robin Rice Gallery and Robin was kind enough to send me an invite to the opening reception that is tonight in NYC. Obviously I won’t be able to make it because I’m here in Los Angeles, but if you are in New York, you should:

The Robin Rice Gallery announces the annual group show of photographs by gallery artists entitled SUMMERTIME Salon 2011. The opening reception will be held on Wednesday June 29 from 5:30 to 8:30 pm. The show runs through September 11, 2011.

Rio, 2002 by Micheal McLaughlin instantly sets the mood. A unique perspective from above a stretch of white sandy beach speckled with multi-colored umbrellas in the foreground, it then ebbs from the aqua surf to a wide expanse of brilliant blue ocean. When viewed from afar it’s reminiscent of Mark Rothko with its horizontal color blocks. Upon closer inspection, the details are filled with the promise of summer…from sandcastles and flirtations on the beach to laughter left in the wake of a tiny speedboat. It’s the perfect blend of contemporary and timeless.

FUCK PRETTY

Actress Angela Featherstone’s first curated show, Fuck Pretty, is a collection of photographs by world-renowned and unknown women artists, whose work moves and inspires her. There are images from contemporary photographers Catherine Opie, Susan Meiselas, Tierney Gearon and equally important to the curator, an array of emerging artists, some of whose work the curator is proud to be showing for the very first time.
